I hope you were able to attend Sarah Whitehead’s Bat Mitzvah – at least some portion of it.  If not, you missed out on a very special weekend for our Temple family – and especially for the Whitehead/Tunick family!  Sarah did a fabulous job both Friday night and Saturday and it was such a pleasure to be able to be a part of that!  If you were not there on Saturday, she was presented with a certificate to commemorate the event as well as a Tanakh and a Kiddush Cup from the Temple membership.  Many thanks to everyone for pitching in and bringing goodies for the Oneg on Friday night and a special thanks to Sybil Abroms, Wendy Roddy and Karen Goldstein for getting everything set up so nicely – and to those who helped clean up too!  Sarah, we are all so very proud of you and so honored to be able to celebrate with you!

Soup Kitchen Weekend

This is our weekend to provide desserts for the Soup Kitchen.  Please plan on helping us meet the need by either baking up a batch of whatever dessert you would like to contribute or picking something up at the store and bringing it by the Temple no later than 9:30 this Saturday morning (November 18).  If you don’t have time to do either of these, finacial donations are also apprecited!  Please let Fran Jacobs know if you will be bringing a dessert item to donate.

Have You Place an Order or Made a Donation Yet?

Check out the new additions to our Website and place your order for some Temple-logoed items today!  Or make that donation you have been putting off because you didn’t have a stamp…Both are new features on our Website and both are SO EASY to use!  Give it a try now!

 Hanukkah Celebration Scheduled

Tuesday, December 12 is the first night of Hannukah this year and that is when we will have our annual community Hanukkah celebration – led by Rabbi Nancy.  Plan to join us for the event, starting at 6:00pm that evening.  Please bring a covered dish item as we will share a dinner following the services.  In addition, please bring your menorah and candles to light during the service.  I am guessing that the annual latke challenge will be in full swing but stay tuned for more on that part of the evening…

 Service Schedule

The service schedule for November and a few dates in December is:

  • November 17 – Rabbi Nancy
  • November 24 – Thanksgiving holidays – no services
  • December 1 – Rabbi Nancy
  • December 8 – Buddy Bernstein
  • December 12 (Tuesday) – Hanukkah

As always, congregants and members of the Shoals community, at large, are invited to attend the weekly Torah Study session which is held each Saturday morning at 9:30, at the Temple.

Reminder items:

  • Soup Kitchen – Saturday, November 18, please have donations at the Temple no later than 9:30am
  • Hanukkah Celebration – Tuesday, December 12, 6:00pm – bring your menorah and a covered dish to share

If you are aware of something in the community that you would like me to draw some attention to in my message, please let me know!  And, as always, if you have any announcements you would like for me to share with our membership, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week and I look forward to seeing you on Friday!

Shalom!
