Where has this year gone? I can’t believe that today is Halloween and tomorrow is the first day of November!  And, as busy as we are going to be, it will be January before we know it!  I will do my best to keep you up-to-date on all the upcoming events!  One thing I want to be sure and point out is that we will NOT have services the Friday following Thanksgiving so please mark that on your calendars so you don’t show up to locked doors that night!  But before we get to Thanksgiving we have…

Sarah Whitehead’s Bat Mitzvah

Next weekend (November 11) Sarah Whitehead will celebrate her Bat Mitzvah! Rabbi Nancy Tunick and Scott Whitehead would like to invite all congregants to share in this beautiful event which will begin at 10:00am Saturday, at the Temple.  There will also be a Kiddush lunch, immediately following the service, at the Shoals Gold Record Room.  In addition, Friday night our congregation will host a special Oneg in Sarah’s honor, following services.  All congregants are asked to please bring a dish to share at the Oneg.  Mazel Tov, Sarah!

Historic Plaque Update

I have had a few questions about where things stand with the Historic Plaque that we voted to have installed outside of the Temple. As you likely recall, the decision was made that, if the congregation was willing to support the process financially, then we would move ahead with it.  Well, that hurdle was cleared and work has now started on the wording of the plaque.  This can be a very lengthy process as there are quite a few rules and regulations that we have to meet with our text and then a number of people (outside of the Temple) have to review it and, after (most probable) edits are completed, it will come back to us for our final approval.  This is probably the most time-consuming component of the process.  Once all of that is done, the plaque gets ordered and the actual creation of the plaque can also take some time.  Despite all of that, the good news is that we are moving forward and, at some point we will have a plaque.  I will keep you posted as I hear more.  Much thanks goes to Karen Goldstein who has worked to create our first draft and to others who read it and shared their edit suggestions.  We are looking forward to hearing back from the review board!
