About Our Temple
Located at 201 East Hawthorne Street in Florence, Alabama, Temple B’nai Israel has been a place of Jewish worship in the Shoals area since 1954. While we are a Reform Congregation in practice, we serve Jewish families of all denominations and warmly welcome interfaith couples into our membership.

We hold services every Friday evening at 7:00pm. Approximately every other week, Rabbi Nancy Tunick travels from Nashville to lead us in worship. On those Friday nights when the Rabbi cannot be with us, services are led by various lay-leaders within the congregation. In addition, every Saturday morning at 9:30am, a group of members, joined by others from the Shoals area, meets to study Torah.

While we are a small congregation, our members have been and continue to be some of the most active and influential members of the Shoals community.

You can learn more about our history at this link: http://www.isjl.org/alabama-florence-encyclopedia.html or by reading “A History of Temple B’nai Israel” written by one of our members, Erwin Coleman, for our 100th anniversary celebration. The book is available in the history room at the Florence public librarhttp://www.isjl.org/alabama-florence-encyclopedia.htmly.
